The primary purpose of this course is to improve students’ proficiency of English through reading and listening practices. In order to prepare students for further academic pursuits or advanced English studies, various types of reading materials will be included in the course, to which students will be encouraged to discuss related topics in class. As for listening practices, each week students will be provided with video clips from CNN website and other sources. After listening to these materials, students will be asked to answer questions prepared by the instructor. It is the instructor’s hope that students will not only improve their English but also cultivate their sensitivity to the major global cultural events.
